GLOSSARY OF TERMS

The list of terms below has been compiled from FAQ's.  Most descriptions were taken from reputable dictionaries and merged with the local commonly used lingo.  If you have any questions, note any discrepancies, or have a new term to add to our list, please contact us at staff@aelpaintball.com.

Barrel cover: an item that is secured over the end of a barrel and used to block paintballs from being released for the purpose of safety.

Barrel plug: an item that is inserted at the end of a barrel and used to block paintballs from being released for the purpose of safety.

Bunker: a natural or man-made protective object participants use to hide behind during games.

Chronograph: the act of measuring the velocity of a paintball as it exits a paintball marker.  This velocity can be adjusted on all paintball markers and each marker is chronographed before play to insure safety regulations are being followed.

Cyclone feed: a feature of the A5’s specialized hopper where an arm rotates at the base of the hopper each time the trigger is pulled enabling paintballs to be effectively loaded into the chamber.

Flat line barrel: a specialized barrel that helps project paintballs further than a standard barrel.

Hopper: a device attached to the top of a marker that holds 200 paintballs.

Paintball marker: the device used, in combination with high pressured air, to mark opponents by propelling paintballs.  Also referred to as a “paintball gun.”

Pod: a container used to hold extra paintballs during games.

Pod pack: a device worn during play that can carry several pods of extra paintballs.

Remote line: a piece of equipment with a long coiled air line that allows participants to carry the air tank somewhere other than directly hooked into the marker.

Safe zone: the areas on AEL’s property where barrel covers are required and safety masks do not need to be worn.  Paintball markers can not be fired for any reason in these areas.  These types of areas are for spectators and staff members and where participants can reload or relax between games.

Speedball: a style of paintball that takes place on an open field with inflatable bunkers.  Speedball can be played indoors or outdoors.  This style of play is often faster paced but within strict boundaries.

Squeegie: an item that is used to clear out unwanted paint or residue from a barrel.

Staging area: the areas on AEL’s property where safety masks are required because participants are getting prepared to play.  Spectators are not permitted in these areas.

Woodsball: a style of paintball that takes place in a wooded area and uses natural bunkers.  This style of play usually requires strategic decision making by each team and is usually slower paced.
